Ground floor
At the entrance you come to the living room where you can relax on the sofa with a chaise longue. Further down the hall is a dining area for 6. The adjoining kitchen with a secondary dining area for 4. It is fully equipped with all appliances and utensils so you can prepare your meals as if you were at home. For your convenience there is also a service WC next to the stairs.
Private Patio
People say that the climate of the Azores has the four seasons during the day, every day. During the sunny parts, you can eat on the patio and even have a family barbecue with the local meat or fish.
Outside there is also a laundry room with washing machine, drying rack, ironing board and steam iron. Just in case you need it, obviously.
First floor
Going upstairs, the master bedroom is on the right. It has a continental double bed and an antique wardrobe that belonged to the original house. Two French doors with the original wooden shutters overlook Rua de Santa Clara – the first street built in Ponta Delgada, they say. Opposite this room you will find a cozy bedroom with two beds, ideal for teenagers. Between the rooms there is a shared bathroom with a shower.
Second floor
At the top of the stairs, you will find the most charming double bedroom in this house with its sloping white wooden ceiling and a balcony from which you can gaze out over the ocean. Truly amazing.
On this floor there is also a bathroom with a shower - and an office (because we know that duty sometimes calls when you are on vacation and here you find peace and quiet to do your work).
Azorean Heritage
In Santa Clara 40 we wanted to show our interpretation of Azorean traditions and that's why we paid a lot of attention to details.
Santo Cristo Tiles
This type of panels are traditionally placed on the facade of houses, demonstrating devotion to the greatest religious icon of São Miguel.
Whale tooth
The Azores are on the migratory route for many species and whales have been hunted in the past. We found this thooth during the renovation.
Furnas' Chairs
These typical chairs were popular in the past. But we managed to find a carpenter at Furnas that still builds them.
Wicker basket
As we were told, this baskets were used by farm workers in the past. Apparently this is the ladies' model.
Hydraulic Flooring
This type of tiles was very common, in the mid 20th century. During the renovation, we decided to give a second life to these.
Cryptomeria wood
Originally from Japan. these trees are now part of the Azorean heritage. We paid the tribute to tradition using it in the sloped ceilings.
